Gas Leak Detection

Gas Leak Detection in the Greater Seattle Area

Locate dangerous leaks within your home before they become a larger problem.

Our gas leak detection service is limited to privately owned gas lines downstream of the gas meter, typically within a home. The gas company is responsible for leaks on the underground service line leading up to the meter. If you smell gas, hear hissing near a gas line, or suspect an active leak, leave the area first and call 911 or your gas company. Once the area is safe, call us to locate a leak on the privately owned side so the repair plumber can fix exactly what's broken.

Gas Leak Detection

How precision gas locates work

Once the area is safe and the gas company has cleared the property, we work with your plumber to have them install access points on the gas lines so we can put a safe non-explosive tracer gas in the lines (in place of the propane or natural gas).

Inside the building, we trace the privately owned gas piping using a tracer gas sniffer from the meter through fittings and appliance connections until the leak is isolated.

When to call your utility first

If you smell gas, hear gas escaping, or have a known active leak, leave the area and call 911 or your gas company first. The gas company is responsible for leaks on the underground service line leading up to the meter. Simply Leak Detection only works on privately owned gas lines downstream of the meter after the area is safe.

What we work on

We work on privately owned gas lines downstream of the meter, typically in-building piping, fittings, appliance connections, and CSST flexible gas piping within a home. We provide documented findings and marked locations for the repair contractor.

What we look for
  • Leaks on privately owned gas piping downstream of the meter
  • In-building piping leaks at fittings, valves, and appliance connections
  • CSST flexible piping leaks
How we do it
  1. Confirm the area is safe and the utility has been notified for active leaks
  2. Trace lines and pinpoint the source with tracer-gas detectors
  3. Mark the location and deliver a written summary included with the invoice
