Electrical Ground Fault Locating

Electrical Ground Fault Locating in the Greater Seattle Area

Pinpoint underground electrical ground faults and conduit issues without trenching the whole run.

When an underground electrical circuit faults to ground - a landscape lighting run, a feeder to an outbuilding, a parking-lot lighting circuit - the breaker trips, the GFCI won't reset, and the only way to fix it is to find the exact fault location. Simply Leak Detection specializes in pinpointing underground electrical ground faults across the Greater Seattle Area so the repair is targeted instead of speculative.

Electrical Ground Fault Locating

How electrical fault locating works

After the circuit is isolated and de-energized, we connect a high-voltage fault locator to the circuit. The unit pulses energy down the line; we then walk the line route with a surface receiver, listening for the characteristic signature at the fault point.

The output is the same as our water locates: a marked spot - typically within a foot - so the repair crew can open the ground in exactly one place.

What we work on

Landscape lighting circuits, exterior outlet runs, feeders to outbuildings and detached garages, parking-lot and commercial site lighting, irrigation controller wiring, and other underground low- and standard-voltage runs.

Why this beats dig-and-find

Underground electrical runs are often shallow but long, and almost always under landscaping, hardscape, or finished site work. Trenching the entire run to chase a fault means restoring the entire run - a precision locate keeps the work surgical.

What we look for
  • Ground faults on landscape and site lighting circuits
  • Damaged conductors and conduit between buildings
  • Faults caused by settling, root pressure, or prior excavation
  • Conduit route for safe excavation
How we do it
  1. Isolate and de-energize the affected circuit
  2. Connect a high-voltage fault locator to the line
  3. Walk the route with a surface receiver to pinpoint the fault
  4. Mark the spot and provide a written summary included with the invoice
Why experience matters

Underground fault locating uses different instruments than water locating, but the discipline is the same: confirm the fault exists, follow the line, pinpoint precisely. We've been doing precision locates across the Greater Seattle Area since 2010, and electrical faults are part of the work we do for plumbers, electricians, and property managers alike.
