Water Leaks – water can travel far from a hidden leak source

Water from a leaky pipe may easily show at quite a distance from the source of the leak. In the pictures below you can see water on the street and water crossing the sidewalk. It would be easy to assume that the leak would be at the highest point on the yard where the water is surfacing but don’t be fooled!

This leak was actually traced to a failed buried gate valve up next to the house….over 3/4 the distance across the yard from where the water was surfacing (maybe 40 feet?)! Both the gate valve and leak were completely hidden and far from all visible signs of the leak. The gate valve box lid too was completely covered with soil and grass not to be notice by even the most trained eye.
